Abstract Title: Benchmarking Focus and Financing Practices of the Main National and Regional Funding Programs in Materials Research

Abstract: Within activities carried out by IK4-TEKNIKER in WP5 of MATCH (Benchmarking and Assessment of main Materials initiatives). In this work, a systematic search of the main National and Regional research funding programmes in the area of materials has been done. Almost 300 funding programmes from 30 different European countries were identified and included in the Programme Database available at the MATCH website.

This presentation includes comparisons between the number of national and regional materials programmes existing in each country, their funding schemes and the degree of specificity of these calls. Moreover, the annual materials research funding average budget has been used as the main indicator to measure materials research funding intensity in each country, compared with their respective GDP. Analyses have been also done about the focus of funding programmes regarding type of material or industrial sectors.
