Research Manager at VTT

Ms Katariina Torvinen, M.Sc., has over 18 years of experience at Valmet Corporation and VTT Technical research Centre of Finland Ltd on the development of fibre based manufacturing technologies for novel materials and products. Currently she works as a Research Manager at VTT in biomass processing and products area. She has the IPMA C certification in project management. She has been coordinating several jointly funded research and piloting projects at VTT. European Regional Development Funded (ERDF) funded TESTAA project was a technology platform for open innovation for SME’s and large companies to demonstrate new product opportunities and search innovative concepts for business. At this moment she is project manager of TEKES funded NoMa-project (Novel structural materials with multi-scale fibre components) within intensive collaboration of SME´s and designers. The project supports the opportunities of companies to create new businesses and added-value products in the area of fibre-plastic biocomposites and porous low-density foam formed consumer products from lignocellulosic fibres, nanocelluloses and polymers. Additive manufacturing process for biomaterials is one of the technology approaches included in her research area. She has published several peer-reviewed scientific articles and will finalize her Doctoral Thesis during a year 2017. The topic of the thesis is manufacturing of nanocellulose based composite films for printed electronics applications.
