Abstract Title: “The U.S. National Nanotechnology Initiative: Vision and Best Practices”
Abstract: The U.S. National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) encompasses nanotechnology-related research and development activities of twenty departments and independent agencies. This presentation will provide an overview of the NNI, including its structure, goals, operation, and key areas of focus including the Nanotechnology Signature Initiatives. Education and outreach efforts will be discussed with examples of how nanotechnology can be used to inspire students to pursue science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields to address future workforce needs. Finally, opportunities for international collaboration though communities of research will be addressed.
