Philipp was a member of the research team at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) in Stuttgart and received a Dr.-Ing.-degree on model-based equipment integration in semiconductor production in 2007.  Then he was research advisor (national seconded expert) at the European Commission (DG Research) in Brussels (2007–2008) and manufacturing engineer at Robert Bosch GmbH, Stuttgart (2008–2012). He is the founder and managing director of the startup company XETICS GmbH, started in 2012. Since 2015, XETICS GmbH is a subsidiary of TRUMPF Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG, Ditzingen, Germany, providing Industry 4.0 solutions, such as Smart Factory software modules and products, to end users and customers worldwide.

Abstract Title: Industry 4.0 in the manufacturing industry

Abstract: Since several years, Industry 4.0 is becoming more popular. But what does this mean in terms of upcoming new requirements towards the technology stack?
Hardware as well as software components and solutions have completely changed from a very industry-focused approach to an Internet-Of-Things (IoT) driven, rather practical and consumer oriented world.
New requirements are mainly focused on easy-to-integrate mechanisms and light weight IT frameworks and software modules in contrast to legacy system architectures. The overall goal of integrating Industry 4.0 based components is to enable the shop floor to be more independent from complex IT systems and develop a new freedom and responsibility of their own tool implementations.
With several real-world examples this talk gives you a comprehensive overview of current requirements and solutions from sensor to machine up to the factory level.
Also, new business models all around Industry 4.0 like cloud platforms, their advantages and how to contribute as a Machine Builder or App- or Service provider are discussed.
Addressing innovative ways of hardware and software implementation as well as the most recent development methodologies accompanying the Industry 4.0 world complete the presented contents.
